Mission & Beliefs

Go therefore and make disciples...

The Mission

The mission of West Hills Community Church is to fulfill the Great Commission as explained in Matthew 28:16-20. We want everyone to not only understand the saving power of our great God, but be discipled into a growing relationship with Him.

Core Beliefs

The Scripture

We believe in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as verbally inspired by God and inerrant in the original writing and that they are of supreme and final authority in faith and life.
II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:20-21

The Trinity

We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Luke 3:21-22, Matthew 28:19

The Virgin Birth

We believe that Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, and is True God and True Man.
Matthew 1:18-23; John 1:1-3, 14; Luke 1:34-35.

The Fall of Man

We believe that man was created in the image of God; that he sinned and thereby incurred, not only physical death, but also spiritual death which is separation from God; that all human beings are born in sin and that this sinful nature is the origin of all sinful acts in thought, word, and deed. Genesis 1:26-28; 3:1-24; Romans 3:23; 5:12, 6:23; 7:18, 23

Saved Through Faith

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice; and that all who believe in Him are saved by grace through faith in His shed blood. I Corinthians 15:1-3; I Peter 2:24; Romans 5:9; 10:13; Ephesians 2:8-9

Jesus Resurrection

We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension into Heaven, and His present life there for us, as High Priest and Advocate. Acts 1:9; 1 John 2:1-2

Jesus Return

We believe in "that blessed hope," the personal and imminent return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Acts 1 :11; I Thessalonians 4:13-17; Matthew 24:44

Salvation

We believe that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ as personal Savior are born again of the Holy Spirit and are eternally secure children of God. Titus 3:4-7; 1 John 5:11-13

Heaven's Assurance

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the saved and the lost, the blessings of heaven for the saved- and the eternal suffering of the lost. John 3:16; Matthew 25:46; Revelation 20:11-15

Satan and His Defeat

We believe in the reality and personality of Satan, the archenemy of God and man and the instigator of sin and death. Satan was defeated at the Cross and will be cast into the lake of fire. John 8:44; I John 3:8; Revelation 20:10

The Church

We believe that the Church is all who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior. The Church is the body and bride of Christ. Ephesians 1 :22-23; 5:25-32; I Corinthians 12:12-31

Believer's Call to Obedience

We believe that all followers in our Lord Jesus Christ are called into a life set apart to God and apart from worldly and sinful practices. Followers should abstain from such behavior that causes others to stumble or brings dishonor to the name of Christ. Romans 12:1-2; 14:13; Ephesians 4:1-2

The Great Commission

We believe that, in the evangelization of the world, the supreme mission of the people of God in this age is to preach the gospel to every person and to disciple those who believe. Matthew 28: 18-20

Ordinances of the Church

We believe the ordinances of the Church to be:
Baptism - the immersion of a saved person in water, thus identifying with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Matthew 28:18-19; Acts 2:41
and
The Lord's Supper – The remembrance of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection until He comes. We observe this by eating of the bread and drinking of the cup which are symbolic of Christ’s body and His blood. 1 Corinthians 11:20-34; Luke 22:14-20; Matthew 26:26-29

God's Design for Marriage

We believe that based on the teaching of Scriptures that marriage is an institution ordained by God from the foundation of the world and intended as a union between one man and one woman. Based on these principles, West Hills Community Church does not condone marriage relationships other than in alignment with our Statement of Faith. The pastor and staff of the church will not officiate, support, or participate in any form of such union including but not limited to providing facilities or interactions in such ceremonies. Gen 1:26-28, 2:15-25; Matthew 19:4-6, Ephesian 5:22-32
